The Awareness Washington County (AWC) class of 2011 proud to announce their class project, Washington County Artisans and Farmers. This group’s mission is to provide fresh seasonal produce and unique artisan crafts to the people of Washington County.  This will take place at a market where producers and consumers support the local economy and serve each other's needs. Currently, there is a 15 member board serving as the start up board for this venture. This board is comprised of local farmers, artisans, and community members. The purpose of this board is to organize a winter and summer market that serves the community in many ways.

This new and exciting group is working to become a nonprofit organization that organizes the efforts of existing individuals and organizations to showcase the talents of growers and artisans in the area and develop a dynamic market for them to display and vend their efforts.  The intent is also to help draw people from outside the county to participate in and/or patronize the produce and art produced in the area.

Plans that are currently under discussion include a winter market for the 2011/2012 season and a summer market for the 2012 season. These markets will include demonstrations, music, recipes, and many other things that meet the needs of the community. The group welcomes suggestions from the community since this market is for everyone! The goal is to make these markets an educational, economical, and enjoyable event for the whole family each Saturday morning!

To become involved, the group currently has a page on FaceBook that can be “liked” to gather more information, stay up with current happenings, and to offer suggestions. To find this page, search “Washington County Artisans and Farmers”. Prospective vendors can also call Alan Bishop (812-967-2073) or email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
